Thousand Oaks

Thousand Oaks

Thousand Oaks is the second-largest city in Ventura County and among the safest cities in California. Situated between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, 12 miles east of the Pacific Ocean, Thousand Oaks is bordered by the Santa Monica Mountains to the south, the Conejo Mountains to the west and north, and the Simi Hills to the northeast.

Surrounded by rolling hills and oak trees, Thousand Oaks is one of the most sought-after communities, first settled by the Chumash over 10,000 years ago. In the late 1800s, a Norwegian community settled near what is now California Lutheran University. To this day, many places are named after prominent Norwegian families such as Olsen and Pedersen.

In the late 1950s, Thousand Oaks became a highly desirable ranch community strewn with chicken farms and orchards. Numerous celebrities owned ranches in the area, including Dean Martin, Roy Rogers, and Bob Hope.
Thousand Oaks’ temperate Mediterranean climate allows for sunny, dry summers and mild winters, making it one of Southern California’s most desirable places to live. You’ll find diverse real estate options on offer, from townhomes and condos to large ranch-style estates. Well-known recreational areas, parks, and hiking trails surround these residences and can be enjoyed year-round.

Local favorites for shopping, entertainment, and dining are the Chumash Indian Museum, The Oaks shopping center, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, Janss Marketplace, Gardens of the World, Wildwood Regional Park, and the Stagecoach Inn Museum. Stop by The Promenade at Westlake for seasonal restaurants, a luxury cinema, and some popular storefronts, or head to The Lakes at Thousand Oaks for Lassens, a local organic grocer, and SunLife Organics, a Malibu-born health food shop known for its juices and smoothies.
